Finding A College
So now that you've got an idea of how to plan for college, the fun process of actually finding a college you'd be interested in attending begins. While the selection process and criteria is pretty unique to each individual student, let's take a look at some information we think you'll find useful in your search.
Are College Fairs Worth It?
It's likely that your school will make available to you some general college fairs. If you haven't yet been to one of these it's pretty straightforward: you go, you get to browse around tables of representatives from a bunch of (normally) local colleges and get information packets and sometimes cool little promotional items like pens or lanyards. Hey, sometimes they've even got food!
Should You Choose an Online College?
Online schools are becoming more and more popular with students today. The advantages over traditional schools are plenty, but it's also true that not everyone is interested in attending classes via the internet. A lot of the students I've talked to have mentioned the convenience of attending classes from home and at any time that suits them and the difference in tuition costs (it's often cheaper to go over the web) as primary points of interest for considering the online route. College life may be one of the most colorful experiences of our lives. Choosing a college degree is the first step to starting a career. Some of us want to be doctors, some want to be engineers and others want to take on CIMA courses and in the future become accountants. Simply put, the road to what will shape our life and career begins in college. That is why, choosing the right college and degree is very crucial. Read the short article below to learn useful tips and advices in selecting the right college.
If you're stuck in the middle - and a lot of people are - many traditional colleges do offer online courses so you can take a few and see if it works for you while attending normal in-person classes as well. This could be a good option if you're really pining for the classic college experience but are hard-pressed for time.
A Word On Tuition and Scholarships
Ah, if only everything in life was free, right? Well, unfortunately college is one of those things that is actually often quite expensive. There are a multitude of ways to pay for college though - let's look at a few options:
- Work / Study - A popular option at traditional colleges, you work i n exchange for tuition payments and possibly room and board (dorms). Not generally an option for online colleges.
- Student Loans - The most widely used option for tuition payment. You get loaned money to pay back over a period of time, normally payments are deferred until you graduate.
- Scholarships - There are tons of these available for all types of students from all walks of life. Most schools have a guidance counselor that can help with the search here. The name of the game is basically to apply to a ton of them. After all, you can't get awarded a scholarship if you don't apply! These are basically free money based on merit and a million other things.
